چکیده

Serious salmonellosis occurred in groups of cynomolgus monkeys newly imported into Tsukuba Primate Center for Medical Science from the Philippines in 1985. During the quarantine period, Salmonella typhimurium (29 strains) and S. stanley (1 strain) were isolated from 30 of 130 imported monkeys. Twenty-eight of the 30 infected monkeys excreted mainly watery diarrhea, and occasionally bloody mucous stool. Seven of the 28 clinical cases infected with S. typhimurium resulted in death or in moribund state. In both the small and large intestines of autopsied monkeys, acute inflammatory changes were observed.

Lethal canine distemper virus outbreak in cynomolgus monkeys in Japan in 2008.

Canine distemper virus (CDV) has recently expanded its host range to nonhuman primates. A large CDV outbreak occurred in rhesus monkeys at a breeding farm in Guangxi Province, China, in 2006, followed by another outbreak in rhesus monkeys at an animal center in Beijing in 2008. In 2008 in Japan, a CDV outbreak also occurred in cynomolgus monkeys imported from China. In that outbreak, 46 monkeys...

US policy for disease control among imported nonhuman primates.

In 1990, in response to the occurrence of Ebola virus (subsequently identified as subtype Reston) infection among cynomolgus monkeys imported from the Philippines, the United States implemented strict disease control measures for handling nonhuman primates during transit and quarantine and initiated importer facility compliance inspections. Disease control measures emphasized protection of work...

bred outdoors in malaria-endemic areas is not uncommon. However, with the exception of P. knowlesi, it is my understanding that malarial organisms found in cynomolgus monkeys do not pose a major zoonotic concern (although this can always change). Furthermore, it is my understanding that P. vivax does not infect macaques, including cynomolgus monkeys. Other malarial parasites of cynomolgus monke...

Malaria in cynomolgus monkeys used in toxicity studies in Japan

Plasmodium spp. protozoa cause malaria and are known to infect humans and a variety of animal species including macaque monkeys. Here we report both our experience with malaria recrudescence in cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca fascicularis) in a toxicity study and the results of a survey on Plasmodium infection in cynomolgus monkeys imported to Japan for laboratory use. A cynomolgus monkey from the t...

0 re Hematologic Characterization of Naturally Occurring Malaria ( Plasmodium inui ) in Cynomolgus Monkeys

I Twenty of 47 recently imported cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca fascicularis) were found to have malarial infections. The agent identified was Plasmodium inui. All infections were subclinical in nature. Parasitemias ranged from 10 to 900 parasites/mm of whole blood. Preand post-treatment hematologic values were evaluated following treatment with chloroquine. Treatment was effective in clearing para...
